Miami Fashion Week Opens October 13 With Runways, Retail and Digital Design

The October 13–18 program connects Latin American designers, an education summit and a new Coral Gables shopping experience.

Miami Fashion Week opens October 13, with a program running through October 18. Runway presentations, a design summit and a new Stitch Lab shopping partnership give the city several ways to engage with fashion beyond the front row.

The timing shifts attention to a different fashion destination after the European collections. Miami’s program brings industry conversation, designer visibility and direct shopping into the same week. For readers following the relationship between creativity and commerce, that combination makes the event worth watching from its opening day.

The opening chapter

The Greater Miami tourism bureau’s gala listing confirms Tuesday’s opening event at Queen Miami Beach, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. It describes the occasion as marking ten years since Miami Fashion Week’s relaunch and supporting students at Miami Dade College’s Miami Fashion Institute.

The organizer’s anniversary announcement identifies Andres Otalora and singer Joaquina as part of the gala program. Later in the week, runway events are scheduled across multiple locations, with Freedom Tower among the principal venues. The release also introduces a retail partnership with Stitch Lab at 350 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, running October 16–18 and featuring more than 20 brands.

That retail component offers a useful question to follow: how does the energy of a presentation translate when visitors can examine and buy the clothes? A runway controls the image through lighting, styling and movement. A shopping event gives fabric, fit and a conversation with the label a larger role in shaping the impression.

Designers to follow

The official 2026 designer page lists Jhoan Sebastian Grey, Yenny Bastida, Jenny Polanco, Andres Otalora, Giannina Azar, Beatriz de la Cámara, Efrain Mogollon, Vero Diaz, Sitka Semsch and Jacqueline Then. It provides runway-ticket links for several participants and identifies Beatriz de la Cámara and Sitka Semsch as invitation-only.

Those access distinctions are important for anyone making plans. The presence of a designer on the calendar does not mean every presentation is open to every visitor. The organizer’s individual event listings are the place to check the venue, admission requirements and current availability before heading out.

From a digital award to a physical runway

Grey brings a specific story into October. According to the organizer’s May announcement, he won Best Virtual Fashion Show at the inaugural Virtual Fashion Awards, held May 21 at Queen Miami Beach. His prize included a runway slot at the October edition, linking the earlier digital presentations to this week’s physical program.

The official Virtual Fashion Awards 2026 Gala video offers background on that event. It is footage from May, rather than a preview showing collections that have already walked this October. The recap gives readers a reference point for understanding the digital initiative and the path that brought its winner onto the new schedule.

A summit alongside the shows

The Miami Fashion Week website confirms an October 14 summit at Miami Dade College. Its announced subjects include sustainability, technology and approaches to design and business, with designers and industry voices taking part.

Together, the summit, shows and shopping program offer three distinct ways to assess the week: the ideas being discussed, the work presented and the encounter with an audience. As events begin October 13, the most revealing coverage will connect those parts and show what each designer actually brings to the conversation. For now, the official calendar is the practical starting point, with the broader program extending through Sunday, October 18.
