CFDA Awards 2026 Preview: What to Watch Beyond the Winners

Before the winners are named, the CFDA ballot offers a wider view of American fashion.

The 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards arrive November 2, with Keke Palmer hosting and a nominee list that puts several generations of design in view.

Read the ballot before the red carpet

Tonight’s ceremony at the American Museum of Natural History, presented by Amazon Fashion, gives fashion followers more than a list of possible trophy recipients. The official CFDA event page brings established houses, independent labels, jewelry and emerging practices into the same frame. Before the winners are announced, that selection offers a useful reading list for anyone trying to look beyond a single viral outfit.

The womenswear nominees are Catherine Holstein for Khaite, Michael Kors, Rachel Scott for Diotima, Tory Burch and Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera. In menswear, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School New York join Ralph Lauren, Thom Browne, Todd Snyder and Willy Chavarria. Taken together, these categories invite comparison across different scales of business and different approaches to dressing. A nomination makes a designer part of this particular institutional conversation; it does not settle which clothes will matter most to an individual wearer.

The accessory category broadens that conversation further, pairing jewelry names Ana Khouri and Sophie Buhai with Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen for The Row, Raul Lopez for Luar, and Stuart Vevers for Coach. It is a reminder to look closely at objects and proportion, not simply at a complete red-carpet look.

Attention has a longer life than a trophy

The announced emerging-design field includes Colleen Allen, Emily Dawn Long, Julia Ferentinos for Juju Vera, Julian Louie for Aubero, and Zane Li for Lii. Their presence matters as a discovery opportunity. Readers need not wait for a winner to begin looking at each designer’s work, materials and point of view. An awards ballot can function as the start of independent curiosity rather than its conclusion.

The CFDA’s nominees-and-honorees announcement also distinguishes competitive categories from honors already announced. Tory Burch will receive the Positive Change Award; photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin will receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Susan Cianciolo is the recipient of the Isabel Toledo Board of Directors’ Tribute, with the CFDA highlighting her use of handwork, reuse and repair alongside other creative forms.

Those choices move the evening’s focus beyond designing a new collection. Photography helps establish how clothing is remembered. Repair asks how it continues to be used. Supporting entrepreneurs concerns who gets the resources to build a business in the first place. Reading the honors together makes the ceremony more interesting than a simple ranking of seasonal looks.

A ceremony, and a point of entry

The host announcement confirms Keke Palmer and a student viewing section presented by WYouth and Nuuly, as the CFDA Scholarship Fund marks its 30th anniversary. The voting body is the invitation-only CFDA Fashion Awards Guild, which includes designers and other industry professionals. This is an industry award, rather than an open audience poll.

For tonight, the strongest viewing approach is to keep both groups in sight: the established names being celebrated and the designers still coming into broader view. Follow the work after the ceremony as well as the photographs from it. This is a preview prepared on November 2; winners, attendance, speeches and red-carpet observations remain to be verified after the event.
