Jay-Z 25 “Extra Innings” show at Yankee Stadium on Sunday Night

the final night of his historic three-show Bronx residency.

Before the show: chaos outside

The night didn’t begin as planned. Hundreds of people without tickets rushed the stadium entrances, forcing organizers to temporarily lock down access. Thousands of paying fans were left waiting outside while security regained control, delaying the concert by roughly three to four hours. Jay-Z eventually came on stage just after midnight and apologized, telling fans the delay was necessary for everyone’s safety.

Historic attendance

Even before the final show, the residency had made history.

  • Saturday night’s concert sold 45,832 tickets, setting a new Yankee Stadium concert attendance record.

  • That broke the record Jay-Z himself had set the previous evening.

  • The third show (“Extra Innings”) was added only after the first two sold out almost immediately.

The concept

Rather than a standard greatest-hits concert, the weekend celebrated two landmark albums:

  • 30 years of Reasonable Doubt

  • 25 years of The Blueprint

The final night blended songs from across his catalog into a celebration of his entire career, from Marcy Projects to billionaire mogul.

Surprise guests

The guest list was stacked with some of the biggest names in music.

Beyoncé

She joined Jay for “Drunk in Love,” bringing one of the loudest crowd reactions of the night.

Rihanna

Perhaps the biggest surprise.

She performed:

  • Run This Town (with Jay-Z)

  • Bitch Better Have My Money

It marked her first live performance in roughly two years, making it one of the weekend’s defining moments.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell performed a medley before bringing out:

  • Clipse

    • Pusha T

    • Malice

Together they performed “Grindin’”, giving the show a classic early-2000s Virginia hip-hop moment.

Usher

Usher appeared for:

  • Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love)

  • Throwback

His soulful vocals fit perfectly with the Blueprint-era material.

Additional guests included

  • Fat Joe

  • Jeezy

  • Swizz Beatz

  • Jermaine Dupri

  • The-Dream

The final show felt less like a solo concert and more like a celebration of Jay-Z’s influence across hip-hop and R&B.

Production

Unlike many modern stadium tours filled with elaborate effects, Jay-Z kept production surprisingly restrained.

The stage emphasized:

  • giant video screens

  • archival footage

  • New York imagery

  • visuals from throughout his career

The focus stayed on the music and storytelling rather than flashy stage tricks. Reviewers described it as intentionally minimalist, highlighting Jay-Z’s presence rather than spectacle.

Crowd atmosphere

Despite the delayed start, fans reportedly stayed energized.

When Jay finally appeared, the stadium erupted, and the frustration over the wait largely gave way to celebration. Reviewers described the audience as spanning multiple generations of hip-hop fans, turning the night into a communal tribute to Jay-Z’s legacy.

Why this run mattered

The residency wasn’t just another concert series. It celebrated:

  • 30 years of Reasonable Doubt

  • 25 years of The Blueprint

  • Jay-Z’s New York roots

  • his evolution from Brooklyn rapper to one of hip-hop’s most influential figures

The three-night run also reinforced his unique connection to New York City, especially performing at Yankee Stadium—a venue that has hosted only a handful of artists capable of filling it at this scale.

I can also give you the complete setlist in order, break down every surprise guest by song, or explain the significance of the deep cuts and album references from the weekend.
