Drake and Don Toliver Release the Official “Solar Eclipse” Video

Drake and Don Toliver give their country-connected HABIBTI (FOMO) collaboration a standalone YouTube release.

Drake and Don Toliver have released the official “Solar Eclipse” music video on YouTube, extending the rollout of HABIBTI (FOMO). The October 6 upload arrives four days after the song reached streaming, putting the Ella Langley-interpolating collaboration back in the spotlight.

The release gives the record a dedicated place on Drake’s official YouTube channel after its introduction through the broader Fear of Missing Out project. For anyone who has been keeping up with the previews, the arrival is another piece of the rollout falling into place. For everyone else, it is a direct invitation to meet one of the expanded album’s new collaborations.

From FOMO to its own spotlight

The road to “Solar Eclipse” started before this week’s video upload. Drake previewed his take on Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” in Houston in late August, then introduced the full song during FOMO in September. Rolling Stone Canada dates the film’s online premiere to September 15. That longer presentation gave the music an early audience before an official streaming release followed.

On October 2, HABIBTI (FOMO) brought “Solar Eclipse” to streaming alongside “Quebec,” “Cold Shoulder” and “Classic PT2.” Don Toliver also appears on “Cold Shoulder,” which features Yebba, making his presence a recurring part of these additions. Today’s YouTube release gives “Solar Eclipse” its own viewing destination while keeping it connected to that larger collection.

The Texas connection

If the song’s melody sounds familiar, there is a reason. “Solar Eclipse” interpolates “Choosin’ Texas,” carrying elements of Langley’s song into a new recording by Drake and Don Toliver. Although the track circulated in conversation as a “Choosin’ Texas” remix, its official release has a separate title and artist billing. Langley’s connection is reflected in the songwriting credits; she is not billed as a featured performer.

That distinction helps explain the collaboration’s appeal. The recognizable country connection offers an entry point, while the song belongs to the R&B-focused world of HABIBTI. In its breakdown, Holler describes an atmospheric arrangement and electronically treated vocals from both artists. Its account of the lyrics centers on a complicated romantic attachment, with Texas place names carrying the story through Drake’s verse and Toliver’s contribution.

There is a Houston rap connection, too. Holler identifies an interpolation of Bun B’s “Get Throwed,” adding another musical reference beneath the country conversation. Read that way, the track brings different versions of Texas into the same song: a country hit, a Houston rap touchstone and Toliver’s own presence.

The credits behind the collaboration

Universal Music Group’s official audio upload credits Noel Cadastre as producer, programmer, mixing engineer and recording engineer. The writing credits include Drake and Don Toliver alongside Langley and her “Choosin’ Texas” co-writers Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. It is a useful reminder that a familiar musical idea carries its original writers into the credits of the new work.

The video arrives under OVO’s exclusive license to Republic Records. Its YouTube runtime is 4:05, while the streaming song runs 3:38. Those are separate presentations of the release, so listeners can choose the full visual or go straight to the track. The players below keep the official video, Spotify song and Apple Music song together.

With its own video now available, “Solar Eclipse” moves from a preview people were waiting to replay into a release they can revisit across platforms. Watch Drake and Don Toliver’s official video below, then hear the song on Spotify or Apple Music.
